Licencing of D2S2

As seen on the homepage, there are three tiers of licensing for D2S2: Demo, Standard and Developer. This page serves as a brief overview of the licensing options.

Demo License

The demo license is our free version of D2S2. It does not require users to create an account for its usage and can be easily downloaded from the homepage. The demo version is intended for demonstration and helping users decide if D2S2 is ideally suited for their needs. While the demo version does not have reduced accuracy or simulation capacity, its limits the user in terms of functionality. The following (non-comprehensive) characteristics describe Demo version:

  • The user is limited to a single satellite, ground station and imaging target per simulation scenario.
  • A foundational set of generic satellite components are available from which to build satellites.
  • The user cannot save scenarios.
  • The option to run scripts is not available.
  • The simulation run settings (such as maximum simulation duration) has restrictions placed on it.
  • The ability to load plugins is not available.
  • Certain complex models (such as the EGM2008 gravity model) is not available.
  • Simulation data (such as satellite position) can only be exported as a comma-separated values file, from the plot window.

Standard License

The Standard license is our most common licensing option. The Standard license is intended for users who desire to perform common satellite mission analysis tasks. In this regard, all features inherent to the application are enabled.

Under this license, the user has the option of purchasing or installing additional plugins for D2S2. Plugins are provided by D2S2 partners and contain high-fidelity models of their components. This allows users to simulate representative performance, exercise commissioning and in-flight operations, and even run hardware in the loop tests using D2S2. The following (non-comprehensive) characteristics describe the Standard license:

  • All models, simulation options and settings are available to the user (saving scenarios, adjusting simulation duration, etc).
  • No limit on number of models in a simulation scenario.
  • Built-in scripts are made available to the user.
    • Power budget
    • Logging script
  • Users have the option to additionally purchase and install plugins.

Developer License

The Developer license is an upgraded form of the Standard license intended for users that wish to interface their own code with D2S2. With the Developer license, users can create their own models to be imported into D2S2 as well as write custom scripts to meet their unique testing requirements. In addition, to facilitate even more automation in the testing procedure, the cross-platform Command Line Interface version of D2S2 is available under this license. The following (non-comprehensive) characteristics describe the Developer license:

  • All features available in the Standard License.
  • The user can write and run their own scripts.
  • The user is given access to the D2S2 API.
  • The user can develop their own simulation models.
  • The CLI version of D2S2 (Linux compatible) is made available to help facilitate automation.
